Horseback Riding in Central Oregon

There are several great places for horseback riding near Prineville. If you build a home in Longhorn Ridge, you have horse trails to the BLM within your neighborhood. There are also campgrounds, ranches, and riding associations in Crook County. Below are a few of the areas where horseback riding and events are offered.

Brasada Ranch Equestrian Center

The Brasada Equestrian Center is a premier horseback riding area. Guests may board their horses, have access to the Rim Rock Rider facilities and events, and ride their horses on Brasada Ranch soft trails, or on the open, public lands adjacent to the equestrian center. Brasada Ranch owners can become Equestrian Club Members, which entitles them to board their horses in first class stalls, with paddock, private tack room, trailer parking and other special privileges. The Club also has limited short-term boarding facilities for members and guests staying at Brasada Ranch. The Equestrian Club will also host a number of fun events during the summer, to include “cowboy cookouts” and activities.

The Brasada Equestrian Center is also home to the Rim Rock Riders Association. The Rim Rock Riders is a long time, family riding organization that has great horseback riding facilities. These include an acre and a half indoor arena and outdoor riding area. Rim Rock Riders also stages and promotes riding events for its members, as well as leasing the facilities for local and regional horse and cattle competition.

White Rock Campground

Ochoco National Forest

It is a great place to camp, hike and go horseback riding into the wilderness. It is a good place for Rockhounders to find geods and agate in the area. An old fire lookout site is located near the campground. Take the road to the left just before the campground and go about one mile. You will find some terrific views of the Ochoco Mountains from there.

Allen Creek Horse Camp

Location: 25 miles east of Prineville to Ochoco Ranger Station, 19 miles NE of ranger station on Forest Road #22. Just past Walton Lake at the end of the pavement, keep to the right on the gravel
road.

Description: Allen Creek Horse Camp is a large developed horse camp located in a ponderosa pine and open meadow setting. Allen Creek runs along on edge of the campground and is fair for fishing during the early season. This camp receives rather light use at the present time and is available on a first come first serve basis.
